The Gem of Alaska >>>

Located in the heart of the Wood River-Tikchik River State Park, Fishing Bear Camp provides access to some of Alaska's most scenic and wild country. Known as the Gem of Alaska the Wood River-Tikchik River State Park is our home base for all our summer fishing and fall hunting operations. We have been guiding/outfitting in this region since 1986. Within the Park we conduct brown bear hunts, moose hunts and moose bear combinations hunts. A large portion of our Moose and fall Bear hunters initially base out of our base camp cabins, coming and going from the cabins to small tented spike camps when necessary or desired in order to take advantage of the best locations for hunt success. If arranged a hunter can base solely out of a cabin for the entire hunt duration. Click an option below to learn more.

ALL of our hunts are professionally guided 1X1, in the true sense of a trophy hunt.

Hunters enjoy the opportunity to stay in their own waterfront cabin while enjoying chef prepared meals daily. Returning to a hot wood stove, hot shower and a wonderful lodge style meal after a day afield.

Using river jet-boats daily as our primary mode of transportation in the same areas where we fish during the summer months. We utilize two essential hunting methods when pursuing moose, "spot & stalk" and "calling".

We generally are successful in hunting bears by Sept. 5th (beginning of moose season). If not, then upon the success of a moose harvest we concentrate our efforts on salmon spawning areas and berry areas of the region.

Brown Bears in this region average 8' - 8'6". These are beautiful, honest bears, with a wide array of color variations in this area. Apart from the traditional brown bear with gold highlights we see a lot of bears with silver and cream colored variations in this area.

Moose in this region are true trophies, with an average antler width of 61" inches, with antler width ranging from 54" inches - 72" inches.

Over the years we have experienced success rates from a low of 60% to a high of 100% many seasons.

Success for this hunt can be determined by a number of variables as any hunt. Weather, client physical and mental strengths, rut activity, salmon spawning activity and all will curtail into the success of a moose bear combination hunt.

Hunters who enjoy fishing love this trip. While hunting bear and moose, each day we have access to world class Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char and Grayling fishing. Bring a positive attitude and embrace the splendor of this area.
